“Checkfin is getting bigger and stronger” – as Marika Barrett announced on our intra’s board when she welcomed me and Minna to the group. In June 2024, our orientation journey towards expertise at Checkfin began.
Did you know that the requirement for proper job orientation comes from Finnish legislation? Job orientation in Finland is governed by the Occupational Safety and Health Act. According to Chapter 2, Section 14 of the Act, every employer must familiarize all of its employees with the required work tasks. In addition, according to the law, the employer is obliged to provide additional guidance whenever necessary.
“Job orientation in Finland is governed by the Occupational Safety and Health Act”
Orientation is an essential part of the first impression an employee gets from the new employer. And as we all know, first impressions are important. It is unfortunate how often I have encountered in several of my previous jobs, the complete absence of orientation or at least its inadequate planning. Often heard sayings: “work teaches its creator” or “yes, just start to do it” are partly also completely true, but when there is no properly planned orientation as support, these phrases are really scary and stressful in the first days of work from the employee’s point of view.
“For an employer, a good orientation is an investment in the future”
For an employer, a good orientation is an investment in the future, because the time and money invested in it will pay for itself many times over. The well-informed staff is competent and self-confident, thanks to which the quality of the work remains good. In addition, a good orientation engages employees. When an employee knows what and how to do the work, then the work is much more motivating and they can cope better at work.
I am pleased to say that at Checkfin, orientation is well planned. I got my first exposure to Checkfin’s systematic orientation when I got to work under Marianja and Marika on a Checkfin’s clients project before starting at Checkfin. The carefully and versatilely planned orientation period was memorable. Even after this, I wonder how it was even possible that our brand new team learned so many new things in such a short time. At the same time we welded into a rock-hard and committed team. Based on this experience as well, I was able to state that with a good orientation, you can get committed experts in their field who can cope with their work.
Now it’s been six weeks since my orientation started and there are more to come. I’m looking forward to what I can learn. It is interesting to see how my expertise develops over time and how I get to delve more deeply into interesting topics. At the moment, I’m learning about the D-visa and I’ll see if my next blog post is about the secrets of the D-visa.
Looking forward to future topics with a positive mind,
